Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery has been providing assistance to men who are experiencing large breast growth, or Gynecomastia, for over 20 years. Dr. Vitenas has put together ten dos and don’ts, to get you started on the Breast Reduction journey.
1.Don’t assume your Gynecomastia will go away on its’ own. Yes, this could happen, but if you have been dealing with this extra tissue for over a year, it will probably require medical intervention.
2.Don’t skip a visit to your primary physician. It is important to determine the cause of your gynecomastia, as it may be a sign of a more serious medical condition – or easily resolved by discontinuing a medication.
3.Don’t hide under layered or baggy clothing. You only get one life, so enjoy it. A male breast reduction can help increase your comfort level and self-esteem; allowing you to hit the gym or the beach shirtless, once again.
4.Don’t be concerned about scarring. A Male Breast Reduction is very different then the Female Breast Reduction. A tiny incision will be made around the areola; from here excess glandular tissue can be removed. Often the doctor will put a small incision under the armpit, to place a Liposuction cannula, removing extra fatty tissue. The scars will be almost completely invisible.
5.Don’t be embarrassed to seek help. Almost 50% of all men will develop some form of Gynecomastia in their lifetime.
Do:
1.Do take action. Regaining your confidence and self-esteem is ultimately up to you. Make a consultation appointment with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss all of your treatment options.
2.Do expect to see full Breast Reduction results within a year after surgery. About 30% will be immediately apparent; 80% after 3 months; normally in 6 -8 months, all swelling will have resolved and 100% of the results can be appreciated.
3.Do take a few days off work to recovery from your surgery. You may experience mild to moderate aching in the chest afterward, and some minor swelling, so plan on between three and five days to rest and heal.
4.Do your research. Knowing what to expect from your surgical experience and recovery will mean a smooth and satisfying Male Breast Reduction.
5.Do take care of your new chest. Carefully follow your doctor’s post-surgery instructions. Wear your compression garment, get plenty of rest, and hold off on strenuous exercise for at least four weeks.
